Overcome Depression With Folic Acid

During this time of folic acid is known as one of the vitamins that are essential for the growth of the baby. But it turns out folic acid may also help prevent disorders and depression.

A study contained in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry found that a sufficient amount of folic acid needed by the brain to work properly. If the brain is deprived of these substances can cause a higher risk of depression and antidepressant drugs worsen the response.
Also in a study published the American Journal of Psychiatry, a group of researchers gave the drug fluoxetine (Prozac) in 213 patients with depressive disorders. After eight weeks of fluoxetine administered, patients with low folate levels were significantly likely to show an increase of drug therapy. Folic acid combined with fluoxetine could be an effective initial treatment for depression.
Folic acid is needed to make DNA, RNA, cell build up and quite active in the brain in the central nervous system. This affects the production of certain essential compounds and neurotrnasmitter substances that carry messages to different parts of the brain.
One theory which allows the relationship between depression and folate is low folate levels cause the SAM (S-adenosylmethionine) is also low which can lead to depression due to an interruption in the brain.
Depression is a serious condition that requires ongoing treatment with the methods of talk therapy, medication use or both. The discovery of the relationship between folic acid and depression is still quite new, so further study is needed to make it into a guide.
